Well – that was a long hiatus!
(“We’re Back!” by Lonely Island – very NSFW, as they usually are.)
Here’s what I’ve been up to for the past three years: (continue reading…)
I’m taking a course in genetics and evolution this semester — a good month to start, no? — to fill in my biology background as I work towards a future involving neuroscience. So I am likely to post more about science here, and also less frequently.
Especially since I had an epiphany about “focus” last month. For most of my life I’ve sympathized with Sylvia Plath’s fig tree predicament, too engrossed in possibilities to fully realize any of them. But perhaps some process of maturation has culminated, because it’s become easier to prune away activities and possessions (tangible and electronic) that aren’t contributing to my goals.
(If you’re looking for inspiration along those lines, try the chorus of Saul Williams’ “Break” — NSFW)
PS — For the record, I do think one can be too goal-focused. (continue reading…)
I was down for two reasons:
Yay internet(s)!
Edit: Except it won’t generate new title images, hmm… Edit 2: And spontaneously, now it does! Edit 3, 12/16: And spontaneously, now it won’t again. ;[
Years of blogging have made me forget how nice it is to see your work published somewhere other than your own blog.
But whom should I write for? The most well-known media are a bit out of reach for a heretofore unknown writer, so I’m on the lookout for magazines and sites that might be more open to that. Not counting HuffPo.
Motivations:
Loyal readers have notified me that only the front page of this blog is working, and everything else is not.
This seems to be due to a system-wide setting that was changed at my webhost. I’ll look into it in the next day or two.
While the “About” page is down, if anyone wants to get in touch, my email is: hello@zachalexander.com
So I’ve been planning to migrate blogs for months now, and though this one is still under construction, I’m going to open it up anyway. During this time my only writing venues have been LiveJournal and Facebook, and I can only post about dating and inane topics for so long without craving something a bit more serious.
In the near future, I hope to be posting thoughts here about: politics, psychology, gender, design, food, fashion, post-religious spirituality, music, etc….
Oh, and commentary on How to be Bacon…
